Selected by RG’s two year anniversary

Two year anniversary for Selected by RG

It is crazy to think that it is already two years ago that I started this little hobby project of mine. I was bored out of my mind during the Covid-19 lockdown, sitting at home in The Netherlands with an imposed curfew. This was when I (or to be honest, it was actually my husband Magnus, who suggested it when he saw the state of me) decided to start this blog.

I bought myself a new Mac, a proper note book and a fancy pen (always need the right kit, right!?) but before I started posting about all these wonderful hotels, I created a kind of manifesto for my blog:

  • I only post about unique hotels. Unique can mean many different things, but basically it has to be a place that has that little something extra, where generic is replaced with stand out. I do a lot of research before I stay at a hotel but still somewhere just under 10% of the hotels I stay at don’t make the cut.

  • I only post hotels that I have stayed at myself and have first hand experience from and all the photos have been taken by me (or Magnus) and the texts are my own words..

  • Authenticity and reliability are key. I want people to be able to trust the quality level of the hotels that are posted here. My way to secure this is to not do any endorsed posts or collborations. I always pay for my own stay.

  • There is enough negativity going around but not here. This blog is all about positivity. I only highlight all the positive things of these hotels and no suggested improvements or negative critiques.

  • This is a hobby. I know that several influencers have this as their job and are therefore relying on income from adverts and collaborations. Since this is a hobby, I don’t.

  • And last but not least, the whole purpose or hope with the blog is that my posts would inspire whoever reads it, to book a stay of their own at one (or several) of “my” hotels after seeing the photos and reading my words.

When I write this I have just published my 197th hotel post and I hope you have enjoyed the journey thus far. I also hope you will join me for the next year when I will reach 200 hotels and beyond.
