One year anniversary
One year anniversary for Selected by RG
One year ago, in December 2020 we were isolated in a lockdown in our home in the Netherlands due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I was tired of watching endless shows on the different streaming sites and was in need of something to break the boring pattern. Basically I was in need of a hobby. This was when I decided to start this blog.
The seed was actually planted a long time ago. I have always loved staying at hotels. Especially unique, great, fun ones. You know, those kind of places where you don’t want to leave but just stay within the four walls of hotel during your stay. In addition to this I love to take photos, to write and to share hotel- and travel tips with friends.
Over the years I’ve often gotten questions from people around me when they have had a trip planned to somewhere if I happen to have any hotel recommendations. Some years ago, after staying at the amazing Masseria Moroseta in Puglia Italy, I decided to start an Insta account called Selected by RG to have somewhere to post all of my recommended hotels. I soon felt that this format was limiting to my creativity (doesn’t that sound like someone that takes himself a little too seriously… :-))? Skip forward a couple of years to a pandemic lockdown and I decided to finally start this blog to have more space for more creativity and better ways to share with you.
The idea for this blog was that I wanted it to have a positive tone. There is enough negativity online and I just wanted to lift the positive aspects about what that these selected hotels have to offer. That my selections criteria was tight enough to secure that only hotels that deserves (I know, it sounds again like I take myself too seriously…) to be here end up here. I also wanted this to be something that feels authentic and my way of doing this is to only post hotels that I have stayed at myself and that I always pay for my stay. I wanted this to be a hobby, something I do for fun and not turn it into some kind of business with the expectations and demands that comes with that.
Basically, what you’ll find here are just some really great hotels that I loved staying at (when I write this I have written posts about 132 different hotels) and I hope my posts will inspire some of you out there to book a stay of your own. And that you will love your stay just as much as I did.
With this, I hope you have enjoyed this first year and I hope you want to join me for the next one.
