Classic Italian Summer hotel right on the beach at scenic Lake Garda

Baia Azzurra / Arco / Lake Garda / Italy

There is something truly magical about staying right on a beach. Where you can walk barefoot from your bed down to the water for a fresh morning dip. Where you can sit on a shady terrace and hear the afternoon sea breeze as it rustles the olive trees. Or my favorite, where you can fall asleep with the window open listening to the gentle crashing of the waves. All of this is possible to experience at this hotel, Baia Azzurra in Arco, right on the water of the stunning Lake Garda.

The hotel is one of those classic Italian Summer vacation hotels where the design is straight forward and simple (I mean this as a compliment). No frills but plain Italian hospitality served to you in one of the most beautiful places I know, the north part of Lake Garda. And the surrounding scenery and the location as such is one of the main reasons why this hotel is a Selected by RG hotel.

Our room was on the top floor in the converted attic and was spacious although the ceilings were slanted. There was a bath tub placed behind the bed which was a quirky design element. The bath tub was big enough for two, we tried it. :-)

One thing worth mentioning is the breakfast. The selection is vast (the kids seemed to go bananas for the bucket of Lindt chocolate spread that they pumped onto everything) and there is a cook whipping up omelettes and scrambled eggs upon order. We loved to snag the table under the lemon tree in the far end corner to enjoy our breakfast. And we started and ended it in the same way, with a cappuccino in the sofa, sitting under the shading olive trees looking out over the lake.

Welcome to Baia Azzurra!

Heading up to our room on the top floor.

Our room was spacious and had a slanted ceiling.

Instead of a headboard we had a bath tub behind the bed. A bath tub big enough for two.

My favorite part of the hotel, the vast outdoor terrace…

…where you could sit under lemon trees.

On the right side of the hotel there is a garden lined with loungers under the blossoming bougainvillea.

…and to the back of the garden there is a hot tub…

…and a sauna.

This is my favorite photo from our stay at Baia Azzurra. And this is the sofa where we started the morning with a cappuccino post morning dip but pre breakfast.

The view from the hotel.

M going into the water for the first dip of the day.

M reading, drinking his coffee while waiting for breakfast to begin.

Breakfast in Italy… No wonder why the kids love it.

You can order egg dishes directly from a cook to balance all the sweet stuff from the buffet.

Me enjoying the afternoon sun on the beach.

M ready to dig in. Best pizza in town is at Nuovo Garda.

The mandatory evening dip before it is time to call it day.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are coming to Lake Garda and you want to stay as close to the water as possible. At Baia Azzurra there is only a walking/biking path between the hotel and the beach.

My favorite thing about this place…

…was when we were sitting under the olive trees in the morning after a morning dip, with a frothy cappuccino just taking in the scenery where steep mountains meet the crystal clear water of Lake Garda.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to exercise. The north part of Lake Garda is a hotspot for mountain- and water sports. And if you need to fill the energy tanks. the best pizza in town is waiting for you at Nuovo Garda.
